Work/Life Balance? That’s Missing The Point, Luv…

by Vlad Dolezal on February 26, 2010

Do you ever talk about food/life balance? Or sleep/life balance?

Of course not. They’re natural parts of your life. (Unless you’re on Uberman’s Sleep Schedule, then you might indeed talk about sleep/life balance ;) )

Yet some people insist on talking about work/life balance. As if work was somehow separate from the rest of your life. [click to continue…]

How to Cut Your Losses and Move On – Sunk Costs

Sunk Costs

by Vlad Dolezal on February 19, 2010

Imagine you have an old car that keeps breaking down. You already blew $1000 on repairs for it and now it’s broken down again. Would you spend another $200 to fix it?

Of course there’s a lot of factors. But there would probably be a voice inside your head saying “I’ve spent $1000 already, it only makes sense to spend another $200″.

Those $1000 are sunk costs. They shouldn’t impact your decision at all. All that matters is the current state and going forward – will spending the $200 be smarter than selling the car and getting a new one? [click to continue…]

Why Choose Polyamory

Polyamory

by Vlad Dolezal on February 16, 2010

Today, I will talk about something I’ve kept private until now – my romantic life.

I won’t try to convince you that my relationship choice – polyamory – is right for everyone. But I will give you a few compelling arguments for polyamory, including:

  • why it draws you closer to your partner
  • how it gives you more perspective (and often makes you realize your partner is even more awesome than you thought)
  • how it makes you feel more secure in your relationship with your partner

As well as all the obvious benefits of more freedom and meeting more people. [click to continue…]

Getting in Touch With Your Inner Expedition Leader

Expedition leader

by Vlad Dolezal on February 12, 2010

I read a great post for bloggers by Cath Duncan recently, about tour guides and expedition leaders.

It got me thinking not just about leading expeditions when blogging (see Lucid Dreaming, or my thoughts on the school system), but also leading expeditions in life in general.

And I realized we all have an expedition leader inside us. Every time you really care about something, you unleash your expedition leader and make it happen. Let me explain… [click to continue…]

Hi, this will be a quick post!

Over the past week, I thought a lot about what blogging means to me. And I realized that while I enjoy giving advice, and the possibility of making money… I blog because of you, my awesome readers.

I enjoy connecting with like-minded people from all over the world. And I realized I haven’t connected with most of you as well as I’d like. So I figured out a few ways we can improve that! [click to continue…]

Recharge Your Energy in Just 20 Minutes – The Power Nap

by Vlad Dolezal on February 5, 2010

Today, I’ll share one simple technique that makes a HUGE difference to how much I get done every day, and how happy and energetic I feel throughout the day!

I’ve tried several variations on napping, but this is by far the most cost-effective method. In just 20 minutes, you get almost as rested as in a full 2-hour afternoon nap. (Yes, I’ve tried those, and longer.) [click to continue…]

by Vlad Dolezal on February 2, 2010

Think about all the people in your life – your acquaintances, co-workers and friends. How many of them do you really LOVE hanging out with?

A handful? Now… what if you figured out a way to attract a ton more people like that into your life, instead of being around regular good-but-not-great people?

Luckily, there’s a simple way to meet exactly the type of people you personally will love hanging out with! [click to continue…]
