Think of the task you want to get done as a treasure chest. Then procrastination is a big wall of gelatin between you and the treasure. Using willpower would mean walking straight into the wall, and trying to push through it. At first you’d make a little progress, but soon the wall would stop you, and then throw you right back. And running at the wall would only make you bounce back harder!

Instead, you can walk around the wall, or dig under it, or climb over it… there are many different ways to overcome procrastination, and they all depend on the cause.

Procrastination is just a catch-all term for any mind-resistance that stops you from doing your work. But there are quite a few different psychological causes, and they each need a different trick to overcome.

Ask the right questions [Day 3] was very informative and useful, and not just for procrastination. I have taken recently to setting aside some time (anywhere from 15 minutes to however long I want) to just sit, take a notebook and ask my brain questions, picking the answers I thought were best, listing them, and then asking questions about those answers… it’s extensive, obviously, but its helped me a lot, specially in goalsetting, since when I say I want to achieve a goal, I ask myself WHY… and I get many varied and often surprising answers.
